If God is omnipotent....
How would one answer the following question?:
If God is omnipotent, then can He create a rock so heavy which He Himself cannot lift?

No, he carn't.
An extract from 'al-fiqh al-akbar explained' by mufti abdur-rahman ibn yusuf:
regarding the ability to do the impossible: as a final note it has been said that every general term (aam)is specified as is reflected in the verse 'for Allah has power over all things'. The general term here (all) has been qualified as being everything he desires. This excludes his essence and attributes, the things he does not desire from among his creation, and the things whose occurrence is an impossibility in his creation. In conclusion, the qudra of Allah is associated with everything with which his desire is associated. Otherwise, it is not to be said that he has power over the impossible, since it is nonexsistent and will necessitate the falsehood of the supposition. Having said this, it should not be said that he does not have the power over it out of utmost respect and shyness towards one's lord.
I suppose sometimes you have to mention it to make it claer though. It might strike one at first but after a bit of thought it makes complete sense that Allah cannot do something which would undermine his being
