Always quote the primary reference
A sincere brother once advised me, which i'm sure is useful for everyone particularly newly graduates:
When quoting any article, always be sure that you state the primary reference . Do not refer it towards yourself or make it look like your own research and invention, as this would become secondary reference, and academically a secondary reference is heavily frowned upon and is a strong case of plagiarism. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plagiarism
Any researcher who is found to do such can be criticised immensely and his future work can be rejected on the grounds of it.
